ADVANCED CREDIT/PLACEMENT
Credit placement options:
  • credit and/or placement for CEEB Advanced Placement (scores of 5 or higher)
  • neither credit nor placement for CLEP subject
  • placement for international baccalaureate
Restrictions on CEEB Advanced Placement options:
maximum of 45 quarter units of Advanced Placement (AP), transfer credit, and/or other external credit (such as International Baccalaureate) may be applied toward the undergraduate degree. Scores of 4 or 5 in a foreign language AP exam satisfy the Foreign Language requirement. AP credit may be removed from your record if subsequent Stanford course work duplicates AP credit course content. AP credit may be applied as elective units toward graduation and toward the major if allowed by the major department. Up to 10 units of credit per discipline is allowed for some of the AP exams.

For Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate exams, see the Office of the University Registrar's policies online. The Stanford University CEEB Advanced Placement Chart 2015-2016 and the Stanford University IBO International Baccalaureate Higher Level Chart 2015-2016 will enable you to determine placement and possible credit earned based on scores.

To request AP credit at Stanford, contact the College Board, collegeboard.com, to request that scores are sent to Stanford.
