ABOUT THE PROGRAM
According to the National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities, "learning disabilities" is a "general term that refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders manifested by significant difficulties in the acquisition and use of listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning, or mathematical abilities." A learning disability is presumably due to central nervous system dysfunction, and is not primarily due to other handicapping conditions, environmental, or cultural influences. An adapted physical education program, which is individualized to the student's needs, is also offered. Learning Disability Program
This program offers specialized services and instruction to students that have been identified as learning disabled. A specific learning disability is defined as a persistent condition of presumed neurological dysfunction which may also exist with other disabling conditions. This dysfunction has continued despite appropriate instruction in standard classroom situations.  The college student who suspects he/she has learning disabilities should first contact the DSP office to make an appointment with the counselor and then meet with the Learning Disabilities specialist for eligibility assessment.
