ABOUT THE PROGRAM
According to the National Joint Committee on Learning Disabilities, "learning disabilities" is a "general term that refers to a heterogeneous group of disorders manifested by significant difficulties in the acquisition and use of listening, speaking, reading, writing, reasoning, or mathematical abilities." A learning disability is presumably due to central nervous system dysfunction, and is not primarily due to other handicapping conditions, environmental, or cultural influences. It is not a form of mental retardation, or an emotional disorder.

Services available to LD students:
remedial math, remedial English, remedial reading, note-taking services, readers, tutors, talking books, reading machines, tape recorders, extended time for tests

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The mission of the Access Center at Georgia Highlands College is to develop and provide reasonable programs and services that allow students with disabilities that are enrolled at the college to meet the demands of college life, as independently as possible.

The Access Center provides accessible programs, services, and reasonable accommodations for any student with a documented, qualifying disability as defined by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as amended, and by the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.
