Clubs and Organizations

 

Alpha Chi

The Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Chi, a national interdisciplinary honor society, was chartered at Mount Olive College in 1991 for the purpose of encouraging scholarship. Membership is selected from the top ten percent of juniors and seniors who have been enrolled full-time for the academic year prior to election and who have completed at least one half of the hours required for graduation.

 

Alpha Phi Sigma

The Delta Kappa Chapter of the national criminal justice honor society was chartered at Mount Olive College in 1997 by Alpha Phi Sigma, which has these purposes: to recognize and promote high scholarship among students actively engaged in collegiate preparation for professional services, to elevate the ethical standards of criminal justice professionals, and to emphasis the benefit and necessity of education.

Criteria for membership are:

Completion of one-third of the credit hours required for graduation

Recommendation by the chapter advisor

A 3.2 GPA in Criminal Justice and 3.0 cumulative GPA

Rank in the top thirty-five percent of the class

 

Alpha Sigma Lamda

The Mu Upsilon Chapter is chartered by the national honor society recognizing scholarship and leadership among adult, non-traditional students. Open to adult students at all sites, it requires a 3.8 GPA and at least 24 credits at Mount Olive. Induction ceremonies are held twice a year.

 

Art Club

The purpose of the Art Club is to encourage and promote membership among all students, to strengthen the relationships between students within the Art Department, to expand student knowledge through enrichment experiences and planned activities, and to have fun.

 

Campus Activity Board

The Campus Activity Board (CAB) is the primary programming body for the campus. Most major events and activities are coordinated by CAB, who work in conjunction with the Student Government Association.

 

College Ambassadors

The College Ambassadors serve as hosts and hostesses at selected College events. Students are invited to be College Ambassadors based on personality, poise, character, and willingness to serve and represent the best attributes of Mount Olive College students.

 

College Choir

The College has a 55-voice concert choir which performs a varied repertoire from classical to modern spiritual music in concert and church settings. Membership is by audition and open to all students.

 

Commuters' Organization

The purpose of the Commuters' Organization is to build closer relations among commuting students and between commuting students and the College as a whole. Membership is open to all non-resident students. Delegates of this organization serve in the Student Government Association.

 

Criminal Justice Club

The purpose of the Criminal Justice Club is to:

Reach out to students and Criminal Justice professionals through external and internal networking

Enrich the learning of the Criminal Justice community

Create unity among the students and the Criminal Justice community

Aid the community through charity work

Membership is open to all who are interested in the Criminal Justice field.

 

Delta Pi Delta Fraternity

Delta Pi is open to men at Mount Olive College who seek a deeper and more profound sense of brotherhood. Membership is open to any male student who has completed at least one semester of college level work, has at least a 2.25 GPA and who demonstrates an enthusiasm for, commitment to and support of the College and the surrounding community.

 

English Society

The purpose of the English Society is to:

Develop a scholarly and co-operative community among various college disciplines

Create a sense of identity and purpose among English majors

Strengthen student, faculty, and staff relationships

Offer personal development opportunities to students and faculty

Offer an out-reach program to area schools

 
Environmental Awareness Club

The purpose of the Environmental Awareness Club is to promote awareness of environmental issues. Membership is open to all students.

 

Fellowship of Christian Athletes

The Fellowship of Christian Athletes is open to all athletes, coaches, or persons who have been involved in athletics in the past. The purpose is to bring together Christian athletes and challenge them to turn to God and trust in Him in every situation they face, whether it be stressful or wonderful.

 

Fellowship of Christian Students

The purpose of the Fellowship of Christian Students is to provide opportunities for Christian fellowship, service, and worship through which students of any faith or denomination may strengthen their personal faith and character; to provide programs of interest on matters concerning commitment; and to provide opportunities to develop leadership abilities.

 

Free Will Baptist Fellowship

The purpose of the Free Will Baptist Fellowship is to:

Promote fellowship among Free Will Baptist students

Provide an opportunity for Christian fellowship, service, and worship through which students may strengthen their personal faith and character

Provide programs of interest on matters concerning one's Christian commitment and the problems he/she faces

Develop leadership ability

 

Free Spirit

Free Spirit is a 12-member Christian ensemble that presents the Gospel through contemporary music. The group ministers regularly in church services, at youth meetings, and at club and community functions throughout the region.

 

Henderson Science Club

The Henderson Science Club, named in memory of Dr. C. C. Henderson of Mount Olive, who was a benefactor of the Science Department during his lifetime, is organized to stimulate an interest in natural science through research and study of current scientific events. The club is affiliated with the Collegiate Academy of the North Carolina Academy of Science.

 

International Club

The purpose of the International Club is to increase interaction between students from different cultures and to promote information about various cultures from around the world.

 

Mount Olive College Cheerleaders

MOC cheerleaders in affiliation with the Fellowship of Christian Cheerleaders, a co-ed squad dedicated to the support of Trojan Athletics. Mount Olive College Political Forum

The purpose of the Mount Olive College Political Forum is to keep students informed about political issues and elections. Membership is open to all students.

 

Mount Olive College Singers

The Mount Olive College Singers is a show concert choir of 13 students -- seven men and six women. This song and dance troupe performs popular, patriotic, and Broadway musical numbers at conventions, shopping malls, festivals, banquets, church dinners, and schools. The Singers have performed throughout North Carolina and from New York to Florida. Membership is by invitation and audition.

 
Mount Olive College Undergraduate Alumni Association

The purpose of the association is to encourage and promote membership among the present students in the Mount Olive College Undergraduate Association, to strengthen relationships between past, present and future students at MOC and to foster the total development of the Mount Olive College Alumni Association.

 
Mount Olive Community Ensemble

Open to all student musicians (all wind, percussion, string instruments included).

 

The Music Club

The Music Club, which was founded in 2003, is a very active club on MOC's campus. The purpose of this organization is to promote membership in the Music Club among present students and to encourage the appreciation of music throughout the school and community. The club serves is community by sponsoring community service events. Any current student who is enrolled at MOC shall be entitled to membership in the Music Club. We invite you to join our club and be apart of a changing MOC.

 
Omega Upsilon Sorority

Omega Upsilon is open to women at Mount Olive College who seek a deeper and more profound sense of sisterhood. Membership is open to any female student who has completed at least one semester of college level work, has at least a 2.25 GPA and who demonstrates an enthusiasm for, commitment to and support of the College and the surrounding community.

 

Pep Club

The purpose of the Pep Club is to promote spirit among the student body for the athletes. Membership is open to all students. A subdivision of the Pep Club is a step team.

 

Phi Beta Lambda

The Zeta Epsilon Chapter of Phi Beta Lambda was chartered on April 10, 1957, distinguishing it as one of the oldest student organizations at Mount Olive College. Phi Beta Lambda is the national organization for college students enrolled in business programs designed to develop professional competencies. Phi Beta Lambda is an integral part of the instructional program and promotes a sense of civic and personal responsibility.

Prospective Teachers' Association

The purpose of the Prospective Teachers' Association (PTA) is to:

Promote the importance of education

Provide a means of communication for prospective teachers

Provide information about local and national educational issues

Establish good relationships between faculty and aspiring educators

Develop a professional attitude in prospective teachers

Provide opportunities for educational service.

Membership is open to all teacher education majors and to all teaching faculty at Mount Olive College.

 

Psi Chi

The Mount Olive College chapter of Psi Chi is chartered by the National Honor Society in Psychology. Open to qualified students majoring or minoring in psychology, Phi Chi recognizes high academic excellence and rewards exceptional student leadership. Membership is based on nomination and election by the Mount Olive College chapter of Psi Chi and student cumulative GPA of 3.0.

 
Psychology Club

The Mount Olive College Psychology Club, established in 1989, exists to encourage, stimulate, and foster personal growth through fellowship and discussion of topics related to psychology. The Psychology Club invites membership from other disciplines as well as from psychology.

 

Recreation Majors Club

The purpose of the Mount Olive College Society of Recreation Majors is twofold: to promote an understanding of the need for positive leisure in one's life and to enhance the development of future practitioners in the fields of recreation/leisure/park services. The club focuses on personal and professional growth through service to the College and community, involvement in professional organizations, and networking with professionals in the field.

 

Sigma Tau Delta - International English Honor Society

The purpose of the Sigma Tau Delta - International English Society shall be literary, educational, and charitable. The Society shall strive to:

Confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature in undergraduate studies

Provide cultural stimulation on the college campus

Foster the discipline of English in all aspects, including creative and critical writing

Promote good fellowship among its members

Exhibit high standards of academic excellence

 

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)

Demonstrated through our actions and words, SADD's purpose is to promote a healthy lifestyle through positive decision making. The purpose of this club is to:

Develop a network of students dedicated to healthy lifestyles, choices and social activities

Increase awareness of alcohol and other substance abuse related issues

Assist students in making educated decisions regarding these issues

Encourage a forum to discuss these issues with others

 

Student Government Association (SGA)

The Student Government Association includes all students in its membership. The SGA Student Council is the executive and legislative board of the Association. The Council has considerable responsibility for quality and content of student life at Mount Olive College and serves as an advisory group to the College's administration and faculty.

 

Students' Theological Fellowship

The Students' Theological Fellowship is an organization of students preparing for the Christian ministry and church-related vocations. The main objective of the group is to provide opportunities for personal and religious development, fellowship, and practical experience for members as they pursue academic preparation for their work.

 
Transfer Students' Club

The purpose of the Transfer Students' Club is to provide support and fellowship among all students, particularly new students at Mount Olive College. The objectives of the organization are to support and engage in activities which would promote fellowship on campus, to provide a mentor program for new transfer students and to cooperate in community activities in an effort to acknowledge the concerns of college students.

 
Volunteer Corps

The purpose of the Volunteer Corps is to provide students the opportunity to come together to share ideas and learn from each other's experiences, to serve as a public relations link between the campus and the community, and to develop an understanding and the need for volunteers.
